Red and White Winter MiniKit

I designed this minikit to match my daughter's pajamas from Christmas morning. I've made a layout using the kit.

I'm calling this minikit Red and White Winter. It does have some Christmas related word art as well. I had fun learning to make bows, banners, and candles. I hope you enjoy it!

Crayon Colored Pillows

This is a craft project that I did with the kids at UUFEC. It turned out so well that I wanted to share the project with some directions. My two year old was able to do the coloring and stuffing portions. She really enjoyed creating a pillow.

1. Iron muslin fabric (natural or white) onto freezer
paper. You want the square to be big enough for the circle that you're going to trace. I cut ~16" squares.
2. Trace a circle onto the muslin fabric. I used a permanent marker so that I could use it for a sewing line later. I used a 14" cake circle, but you could use a plate or pot of a size you want.
3. Have the kids color in the circles using regular crayons or fabric markers. If you use crayons, you'll want to put a white paper towel over the crayon and iron lightly to set the wax into the fabric.
4. Remove the freezer paper.
5. Cut out a backing fabric the same size as your muslin square.
6. Sew the muslin square and the backing fabric (right sides together) on the marker line. Leave an opening about as wide as your hand to turn the pillow.
7. Turn the pillow right side out.
8. Stuff with polyfil or other stuffing.
9. Sew the opening closed.

Winterlight Mini-Kit

This is my take on the RAKScraps Mega-Kit theme for January. Visit the RAKScraps website to download the Megakit. I loved the colors and the theme of evergreen trees and candles. I have to admit, though, sometimes it's hard to imagine in Florida.

Arctic Blast - Papers

I'm working on the Arctic Blast theme from ScrapKit Challenge. The papers are below. I'm not sure the preview does them justice, but there are glitter pages and snowflake pages along with felt and cardstock textures. Stay tuned for elements.

I've been trying to design my own kits - I think it's challenging and fun. However, I wasn't ready to try to think up theme and colors as well as make papers and elements. I've joined the ScrapKit Challenge forum.

The theme for this month is Arctic Blast. I've been working on the papers, although they're overdue. I think I'm going to have to just finish soon and see what we have. So far, I've made felt, cardstock, and several patterned papers.

From the SKC forum's tutorials sites, I've found a great blog (Humbug Graphics Galore) with a lot of tutorials. I've been introduced to some new software - ArtRage and Alien Skin Eye Candy 6. I'm having a lot of fun designing

Pirate Quilt

I thought I would share a little bit about a quilt that I completely recently. I was "commissioned" to create a pirate quilt for a friend. The only directions were pirates and to put his name on it. I'm really pleased with the way it came out. I machine pieced the top and then quilted it on my new Viking MegaQuilter on an Imperial Quilt Frame.

This was the first big top that I'd done on the machine. In fact, we had to expand it from 10' wide to 20' wide. I had a REALLY difficult time until my husband realized that I was rolling the quilt the wrong way at the top, resulting in much needle-breakage. Once we resolved that, the quilt went much faster.
